Carl here from Montreal *(met you at HD's in Toronto with my producer, Lori)
I've been looking around Montreal for fair-trade African coffee--but have only found a single blend that includes some Tanzanian beans. They have all kinds of South American stuff, but hardly anything from Africa. Is that a normal thing?
Since I saw your documentary I can't help but want to try Tadesse's coffee--does the cooperative have a website for orders? We have a roastery on the corner of our street and could get them to do that part of it. Just curious.
--can't figure out how to start my own topic--sorry to post it here.

I've been roasting and selling Ethiopian coffee from the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) since I started up and will ship anywhere in Canada. I only roast 100% Fair Trade Certified coffee (it is all 100% Certified Organic as well).

I found 2 fairly quickly for USA sales of roasted beans (ground if needed). I was surprised at the low prices compared to the local shops. Grounds for Change and Java for Justice.

Also, you can buy OCFCU's coffee from Peace Coffee, a really great company in Minneapolis, MN, USA that was also mentioned in the film.
Here's a link to OCFCU's coffee on Peace Coffee's website:

Hi, To get hold of Tadesse's Oromia Coffee, I know that the Co-op group have indicated that they will be stocking the coffee from September, which will be a big step forward in the UK. The Co-op Group has been providing screenings of Black Gold across the UK for Co-operative Group members, such as myself, which has helped bring this film to the attention of many more people. I've suggested we need a sequel: "Black Gold II".

I am not a coffee drinker, but most of my family is and they have been drinking Black Gold. When my mom went to her local store in Salem, Or to get some to bring to my daughter and son-in law here in Seattle, she found that is was closed. So I was given the task of searching out a new place to purchase it. I have to admit I have not see or read anything about the movie Black Gold, and from what I've just read I think you are all saying that the farmers are being treated unfairly. If that is the case we sure don't want to support that industry. So can someone suggest a replacement coffee/blend for the Black Gold? Thanks

You can buy OROMIA's roasted coffee in the USA from the Pachamama Coffee Cooperative, which is owned by the farmers themselves. Mr. Tadesse Meskela is on Pachamama's Board of Directors. There is not a more direct way to purchase this coffee.
Check it out http://www.pachamama.coop

=> deansbeans.com <=
I manage a coffee shop in Ohio that sells exclusively fairly traded and organic coffee. Our main supplier is Deans Beans in Massachusetts. Dean works extensively with Tadesse and the farmers of Oromia and highlights them several times on his website. You can buy their coffee directly from deansbeans.com or from our website donkeycoffee.com. The blend is called "Marrakesh Express" and it features beans from Ethiopia as well as East Timor. It's really fantastic coffee. Check it out!
